A big win for W52 - FC Porto, and another for SwiftCarbon! Edgar Pinto snatched the third stage of the Vuelta Asturias – the third time that the Portuguese-based UCI Pro Continental team has won the coveted final stage (Ricardo Mestre and Raúl Alarcón taking the top step in previous years).
The final stage between Cangas del Narcea and Oviedo ran over 120km with a 2nd category mountain prime close to the finish. After many attempts at an escape, a break of five riders formed, but were caught at the beginning of the climb. In this challenging ascent, a group of eight, among them Edgar Pinto, went clear. In the final 5km, Pinto went all in and launched an attack, gaining an advantage he’d maintain on the descent, holding off his chasers. It was enough to secure victory in the stage, and 4th on final GC aboard his SwiftCarbon UltraVox. Congratulations!
